About Cory Kien
PROMOTING POSITIVE CHANGE OF THE EXPERIENCES OF CALGARY HOME BUYERS AND SELLERS BY BEING THE TRUSTED & EXPERIENCED COACH/ADVISER THEY NEED, NOT THE “SMOKE AND MIRRORS” TACTICS OF THE ALL TOO COMMON SALES AGENT
Cory studied Human Geography and Urban Design for his university degree, and also displayed an aptitude for Pass Coverage 101 as a defensive back for the U of C Dinos. During these early days post Y2K Cory thought that he’d one day be an Urban Planner as a profession. That is until the day came in his final year of studies that he realized that that career path most assuredly leads directly towards working at City Hall and participating in “funny shorts day” every second Friday (or however they do it). At 21 years of age Cory put together whatever parts of a down payment he could manage to have not already spent at the Den or the original Cowboys and he purchased one side of a 1970s duplex in Bowness complete with roof damage and an ant problem so that he could be close to the U of C while also hopefully attracting some roommates to help pay the mortgage. Cory grew up with an unrealized entrepreneurial spirit but it was around this point where he took a strong interest in real estate and investing.
In 2004 Cory got his real estate license and with the help of some connections he began his professional career with the commercial firm he wanted to work for above all others, CB Richard Ellis (CBRE). It was here where Cory started full time studying the real estate market as a Research Analyst. With his head down and his eyes set on earning a spot on one of Calgary’s most reputable Commercial/Industrial teams. Cory spent six years on the commercial property side of this business where he learned and built a strong foundation of skills and experience that can only be gained by a real estate professional from being a part of larger amounts of “deal flow” and having great mentors. In 2010 Cory switched to the residential side of the market, primarily focusing on the inner city areas of town. Cory saw an opportunity on the residential side of the industry as he was seeing and hearing about Calgarians being exposed to thousands of under qualified agents and the bad experiences that resulted. Cory’s approach is to offer Calgary home buyers and sellers the level of professionalism, accountability, market understanding, and advice we all would expect on such a major transaction. To Cory it’s as simple as this: “given what I know about this business and the market we serve, I would never advise anyone on price or strategy that I wouldn’t follow myself with my own family home”
